Marilyn Doyle

I am a 64-year-old psychologist, with specialties in psychological assessment and child psychology, and a walking billboard for adult learning. Like many people, I got my bachelor's degree in my early 20s. Unlike most people, I got it in the field of ancient history. Somehow, I ended up being an editor at the University of Minnesota, and stayed there for many years.

In my late 30s, I decided that I wanted to come out of the editing corner and start relating to people instead of pieces of paper, and went back to school to get a master's degree in counseling psychology. I then went to work in a community mental health center, specializing in working with young children.

Ten years later, I figured it would be a good idea to really learn what it was that I was doing, and so I went back to school again to get my doctorate. I then worked for an executive development organization as a consulting psychologist and head of the measurement department, studying -- among other things -- the organization's effectiveness through client outcome and satisfaction surveys.

In 2003, I began teaching psychology at a local college. My plan when I graduated from high school was to teach, and finally I'm doing it. I love the challenge and the students, and am enjoying this new direction in my life.

I tend to get quite passionate and obsessive about whatever my current interests are. Collecting bubble blowing paraphernalia, the computer, and internet are my ongoing areas of fanaticism. Every once in a while, I squeeze in time to read a book and to reconnect with all the friends I've been neglecting.
